Digital Photography

QUALIFICATION AS level Art, specialising in Photography

CONTENT Photography includes artwork in film, video and digital photography. Students develop artwork in the medium of photography, which should form a means of personal enquiry and expression involving the selection and manipulation of images.

Students learn camera techniques and use a computer to create high quality photographs. They learn how to edit and produce a short video. Students are expected to develop a creative approach to photography and video that goes beyond the simple observation and recording of events or situations.

BENEFITS Students develop confidence in their ability to develop their own ideas through the use of different photographic techniques. They explore the different uses of colour and tone to create mood and expression using both still and video cameras; this includes developing knowledge on camera angles and photographic composition. Students develop their ability to express their own ideas in a variety of ways and develop an under-standing of the work of other artists and photographers. They study photography that includes film based title sequences, documentary, and art focused photography whilst exploring the social and moral issues concerning photographers. They learn how to use this knowledge to help develop their own ideas and approaches to practical picture making. This work is developed through the use of a work journal and concludes with students making their own compositions.
